This self-portrait started the series of large scale drawings created for my Master of Fine Arts Show in the spring of 1997. Formally, it represents common characteristics and traits that are visible throughout the series. It is large scale, and reflects the spontaneous and intuitive, yet purposeful and confident manner that it was created in. The figure is represented with a combination of graphic or stylized features together with areas of recognizable realism and representation. The juxtaposition of realism with gestural and flat surface or pattern areas adds to the depth of the portrait and heightens the drama of the scene.
